Patricia Pitts, PHD
Dr. Patricia Pitts is a nationally renowned expert in the treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and related disorders. She has addressed a variety of national and international professional conferences, professional trainings, and community education in her 30+ years of treating these disorders. In 1985, she established and is the CEO of The Bella Vita Eating Disorder Program currently comprised of Residential Healing, Transitional Living, Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs and Outpatient Services. Dr. Pitts has extensive professional experience in developing, implementing, and directing inpatient, residential and outpatient eating disorder programs in California at The Bella Vita at BHC Alhambra, The Bella Speranza Residential Healing in La Canada Flintridge, The Bella Passione Residential Healing in Thousand Oaks, The Bella Verita Transitional Living in San Marino, The Bella Vita in Los Angeles and The Bella Vita in San Fernando Valley. In addition, she designed and directed inpatient eating disorder programs at CPC Alhambra Hospital and Ingleside Hospital. She has also served as an eating disorders consultant to numerous other facilities, colleges, and schools.
Among various accolades, Dr. Pitts was named Weight Control & Eating Disorder Specialist of the Year in 1999. She was also listed in the Who’s Who National Directory of Executives and Professionals and Covington Who’s Who V.I.P. along with being awarded Program of the Year by CPC Adult Psychiatric Program. Her broadcast appearances include Woman to Woman, NBC’s EXTRA Life Changers, TLC, and news programs such as KCAL, CBS and MSNBC, among others. Radio broadcasts include segments on KRLA and KABC, The Bella Vita Radio Show, Numerous College Radio Shows and Dying to be Thin Podcast Series. Dr. Pitts was featured in the aired documentary “Prisoners of The Flesh” and TV series BBC “Brand New You”. She was also Consultant to Brand New You, Columnist for Choice Magazine and Editorial Blogger for BlogHer.com. Since 2006, Dr Pitts has been the Eating Disorder Forum Expert at MedHelp.com.
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Pitts received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Cambridge Graduate School of Psychology. She also holds a M.A. in theology from Fuller Seminary and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Dr. Pitts is a member of The California Psychological Association, both American and California Associations of Marriage and Family Therapists, International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals, Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, National Eating Disorders Association and Academy for Eating Disorders.
